How to make small chocolate hedgehog cakes

Hi everyone today ill be telling you how to make some small chocolate Hedgehog cakes these cakes are great for kids and great for kids party's especially for younger kids all smaller kids would love these because there also really colourful.



Ingredients you will need to make the chocolate buttercream
  • 50g/1¾oz good-quality dark chocolate (minimum 70% cocoa solids)
  • 100g/3½oz unsalted butter, softened
  • 200g/7oz icing sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • milk, to loosen
 
Step 1-Melt the chocolate in a bowl set over a pan of simmering water.(Do not allow the base of the bowl to touch the surface of the water.) Allow to cool until the chocolate no longer feels hot to the touch.
 
Step 2-Beat the butter in a bowl until soft, then gradually beat in the icing sugar. Add the vanilla extract and beat again.
 
Step 3-Fold in the melted chocolate until completely incorporated (add a few drops of milk if the mixture is a little stiff).

Step 4-This icing can be kept in the fridge for a few days. Bring to room temperature and beat again until smooth before icing your cake.

Top tip.

Double the quantity of this icing if you want to entirely cover a cake. It freezes well, too-on or off the cake.

  • 50g self-raising flour
  • 50g caster sugar
  • 50g margarine
  • 1 tube Smarties
  • 1 packet of chocolate buttons

Step 1- Heat the oven to 180oC,gas mark 4.

Step 2- prepare the bun tin with 9 paper cases.

Step 3-Sieve the flour into a mixing bowl and add the sugar and margarine.

Step 4-Break the egg into a small bowl and beat lightly with a fork.

Step 5- Beat the mixture for 2 minutes until it is free of lumps and is of a soft dropping consistency.

Step 6- Add any flavouring and mix well.

Step 7- Using a teaspoon, place the mixture evenly into the cases.

Step 8- Bake for 15-20 minutes in the centre of the oven.

Step 9- Leave to cool on a cooling rack.

Step 10- While the cakes are cooling evenly spread over your chocolate buttercream which you have made already.

Step 11- Then break some chocolate buttons in half and use them as the spikes and put them evenly spaced out on your cakes.

Step 12-Lastly get a smartie and put them on the front of each cake, these will be the nose's for the hedgehog cakes.

Suggested flavourings

 
Chocolate  remove 2 level teaspoons of flour and add some of cocoa.

chocolate chips 50g
orange/lemon   finely grated rind
Coconut           15g desiccated coconut
Sultanas'         50g
cherries            50g, chopped
Nuts                 50g chopped
